Abstract

Service Industry is the major contributor to the socio-economic growth of any nation. It is one of the largest and fastest growing industries the world over. In India, too, the service sector has been contributing a lot towards economic development. The banking sector is one of the important players of the services industry serving the financial needs of the community. In the recent years, banking sector has undergone various financial reforms and innovations. Microfinance is one such phenomenon that has been emerging as a biggest intervention in the world of banking. In this paper, ant attempt has been made to overview the concept and growth of the dominating model of microfinance delivery in India- Self Help Group-Bank Linkage Model. The study would also highlight the progress of SHG-Bank linkage in the state of Punjab.
