Indian Villages are the mirror of India's past and present. The concept of Village differs from country to country. To the western school of thought, the concept of village is more or less recent and modern whereas to the eastern school of thought, it is more basic and older. In the epics, some details are available about the villages.
According to Mahabharta, "A village has certain characteristics: multi types of inhabitants cattle farm with small hamlets." Giving a full amount of an Indian villages and its organisation during the Mahabharta period.
The present study has been devoted to examine the socio-economic status of rural households in Haryana. For the purpose of analysis we have conducted a socio-economic survey of two districts of Haryana, namely Kurukshetra and Kaithal. I have drawn a sample of 150 Households and has been divided into three occupational groups, i.e, Farmers, Labourers and Self-Employed non farmers. The study is basically destrictive in nature and emphasis has been laid on the socio-economic conditions of the villagers with special reference to occupation, literacy rate, caste, level of living indicated by their income earning and consumption pattern, saving and dept positions.
The basic objective of the study is to find out as to how for the residents of these villages has been affected by the process of all round economic development and various other economic and social forces operating on or as a consequence of specific government policy measures.
