Abstract

Globalization shows its immense influence on society, culture, economy and policy; even up to regional level. The contemporary global trend exhibits that globalization catalysts the popular culture and discouraging the folk art and culture. The retardation of folk culture results into multi-dimensional consequences like loss of cultural identity, fragmentation of social cohesiveness and after all a negative impact on rural economy. The present discussion tries to explore the impact of globalization on the Chhau dance in Purulia District in the state of West Bengal, India
