Does ascribed status shape one's achievements?- A socio-psychological study on emotional intelligence of adolescents.

Ascription and achievement of status go hand in hand in all societies. Though opposite in principle, they are complimentary in function. The present study was undertaken in Jammu District (Jammu & Kashmir, India) to find out whether status given to an adolescent by birth mould his emotional intelligence or not which can further act as predictor of his achievement in life. There is a need for exploration of the emotional side of adolescents because adolescence is the most vulnerable stage to emotional problems. Mangal Emotional Intelligence Inventory to 210 English knowing students of XI ^th class studying in Government schools of urban and rural localities was administered. It can be concluded that other than sex, two other status have great impact on emotional intelligence of adolescents.
