Credit based evaluation system in higher education -enhancing its viability through ict's interventions

The examination system has its existence since time immemorial. It has also been recognized as one of the most debatable features of the Indian education system since nearly half a century. The magnitude of the problems associated with examinations has been growing at an alarming rate and it has in fact become one of the biggest challenges for the academic administrators and policy makers to create a transparent, fair and objective system that is self sustaining. University Grants Commission has come up its mandate for making the choice-based credit and semester system compulsory for all the educational institutions of higher learning. In order to put the students to continuous reading and to be attentive to the educational programmes throughout the programme period, several methods of continuous examinations/evaluation schemes are included. In the present electronic era, the application of ICT in evaluation is coming up very helpful. In this paper, interventions of ICT for enhancing the viability of Credit Based Evaluation system are highlighted. Certain problems associated with ICT interventions and their possible solutions have also been emphasised in this paper.
