Dibang multi-purpose project: A cretical anaysis of communities’ perception

In every project execution proper planning is the utmost require considering the interest of the community. It is in vain to talk of the interest of state, without understanding what the interest of local community is.

Arunachal Pradesh is considers as a power house of the nation having one of the largest hydropower potential (around 38%) in the country with a installed capacity of 66,055 MW. Many MoU/MoA has been signed between state Government and power developer. Among of these parties NHPC (National Hydropower Corporation) emerged as key player.

The Dibang Multipurpose Dam project of NHPC has installed capacity of 3,000 MW proposed in the Lower Dibang valley, Roing turned to be central point tribal-state conflicting interest. Thus, present paper is designed to highlight the people agitation, NGOs, civil society against the proposed Dam project. Simultaneously, the present paper has been made an honest effort to draw out critical analysis of local community against the said Dam project and find out the standard negotiation to resolve the conflicting interest of local community, power developer and state government.
