Abstract

The main purpose of this paper was to investigate whether there is any perceptional and/or sympathy difference between females and males of Gamo people for inter-cultural relations and touch communication; and how these touch communication (haptic) cues can be helpful and/or barriers for the effectiveness of pre and while inter-cultural communication. In order to attain this aim, the valuable data was gathered, organized and analyzed. The result of the analysis shows that females and males of Gamo people have almost the same level of sympathetic attitude for others’ cultures. This means that, both of them have a positive sensitivity for different cultures. But in the case of haptics, there is statistically significant difference between males and females; males have positive sympathetic attitude for touch communication cues when compared with females. In other words females have significantly higher of levels of negative sympathy for touch communication cues with the overall destination than males. Females do not want to touch strangers or being touched by strangers while verbally communicating with English in intercultural situations. Therefore, individuals out of Gamo culture should give special attention and should take care to females in relation to touch communication cues while communicating verbally with English. Otherwise there will be miscommunication or misunderstanding between them.
