A Study of Perception of University Teachers and Students towards Corruption in India

The present paper is an attempt to expose the perception of University teachers and students towards corruption in India. The study is purely based on primary data which were collected from 110 respondents (45 teachers and 65 students) through questionnaire. It was highlighted through the study that a very high level of corruption is prevailing in the country (63 per cent respondents); the right persons are not at the right jobs in the country (81 per cent respondents); the people try to achieve the things for which they deserve (about 44 per cent), while 35 per cent opposed the statement; the Indian people break the law for their benefits(74 per cent); breaking laws is the shortcut for success(56 per cent); and the success come through unlawful means instead of hard work or lawful means(73 per cent). So, it is suggested that to curb the problem of corruption from the country by its roots, the development of moral and ethical values among the masses is a must through redesigned education policy, citations of the deeds of the great performers in various fields, and to honour the honest and hard working deserving people publicly with the help of media and by discouraging the miscreants (corrupt people) in the same mode by blacklisting them and attaching their property with the central revenue offices.
