Abstract

Migration is a historical phenomenon and is experienced by human being through ages. Due to its versatility, it is termed in various ways. These terminological variations of migration often confused our simple minds and if it is in a state like Tripura then it really become attention grabbing. In the last century, the small hilly state Tripura witnessed a huge influx of immigrants especially the Bengali immigrants that ultimately changed the demographic pattern of the state. Those migrants are of various nature and hence they have their own terminology. In this article, I tried to highlight the various terms of migration and make an effort to find out the appropriate terms used for those migrants in Tripura in the last century based on some primary and secondary sources.
