Little is known about faculty job satisfaction or dissatisfaction in higher education field as well as in developing counties like Vietnam. Academic members with a high level of job satisfaction are more productive, creative and positive attitude towards their job. The purpose of this study was to determine background and organizational environment factors that affected the faculty job satisfaction in Vietnamese higher education. The study used a questionnaire to survey with 178 academic members from three public universities of Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam which selected as a statistical sample. The findings of this study showed that academic members were moderate level of satisfaction with their job. The present analysis found that no significant differences faculty job satisfaction existed among the three universities. Significant regressions between job satisfaction of academic members and background and organizational environment factors were determined. Recommendations on the study's findings to the management of university are also discussed.
