A socio linguistic inquiry of the sources and the meanings of masqan gurage

This research geared its purpose on the identification of the basis and the themes of Masqan Gurage Clan names. The inquiry followed qualitative and descriptive ways of research. And used purposive sampling technique. From 44 clan names 41 recorded, classified and samples are described. The result of the study showed that, the clan names are based on totems, religion and language.

This research is conducted on the original area of clans of Masqan. As it was observed by the scholar there are some inviting cases for researchers of different fields, and hence it is believed to be a value adding research to the field of Onomastics and many more.
