Levels of social sector indicators in A.P. - A regional wise analysis

Social sector infrastructure plays a prominent and effective role in enhancing human development, reducing poverty, increasing income earning capacity, improving productivity and ultimately leading to a better standard of living. Social sector development promotes GDP of society and helps people achieve higher levels of human development. The main objective of this paper is to assess the regional imbalances in the levels of social sector indicators in Andhra Pradesh. For assessing the relative position of each madal with regard to social infrastructural development a Comprehensive Composite Development Index (CCDI) is constructed. The study clearly shows that lopsided development has been taking place in the creation of social infrastructure in Andhra Pradesh. Hence it is necessary to increase the capital component in the total budgetary allocation for the vital sectors such as health and education and also by improving social sector infrastructure especially in backward areas so as to improve the quality of life of the people; other wise, uneven development may create new problems and causes unrest.
