Abstract

This paper presents the qualitative analysis of teacher's attitudes and their perceptions about teaching students with visual impairments in higher education institutions. It seeks to explore the facilitating and hindering factors affecting the teachers experience with these students. For this study, qualitative method was used. The analysis has been done on the basis of in-depth interviews with those who are teaching students with visual impairments. For this study, data was collected from fifty teachers by using both purposive and random sampling. The findings of the study indicates that most of the challenges faced by teachers includes lack of proper support from administration, non-availability of learning resources, and assistive devices being out of their control. Further, it also suggests that teachers’ challenges with teaching students with visual impairments in higher education have a negative impact on the educational experiences of these students.
