Abstract

During the Soviet period, all the rulers indiscriminately were, in most of the cases, against religion of whatever faith. For many of them were atheists and as such, very often, embarked on the path of anti-religious campaigns in the entire Soviet Union including Central Asia; and as such the case of Tajikistan was not different. Different methods were adopted to make people to give up their faith upon their respective religions for the Soviet authorities consider it as a big hurdle in the socio-economic development of the region. The sole motto therefore remained to transform the diverse people of the entire Union into what is called the “Soviet Man”. And as such more and more energies were invested in this direction from the very formation of the Soviet Union in 1917.
