Why do ethnic communities fight?: Lessons from karbi anglong, Assam

Almost all the state today confronts community clashes. These clashes have engrossed so deeply into the human history that retrospect the notions of pluralism, assimilation, and tolerance. Groups or communities are seen contesting each other in regularize the demands for self determination. But there is no uniform answer why the ethnic communities are fighting each other. The present paper tries to provide an answer to this question by referring to an alarming issue of conflict in the district of Karbi Anglong, Assam. The paper highlights the earlier incidents of conflict in the district and tries to find out the hidden motives behind the conflict and how it questioned the historic ethnic coexistence in the area.
