The effectiveness of the education system in any country mostly depends upon quality of teachers. The quality of teachers depends upon number of factors such as – achievement in different subject areas, attitude towards teaching, teaching aptitude, interest in teaching etc. Aptitude is considered to be an important psychological trait, which can predict the future success or failure of an individual in one occupation or areas of occupations. It helps an individual to acquire with training degree of proficiency or achievement in a specific field of work. Teaching aptitude implies how well an individual will be able to learn as well as acquire skills of teaching, knowledge of psychology of children, different methods of teaching, etc. It indicates whether an individual will be successful in teaching profession. It also indicates how good an individual in communicating classroom instructions. Therefore in the present study an attempt has been made to focus on the teaching aptitude of B.Ed students, whom may be considered as the teacher of future.
The main objective of the present study is to measure the teaching aptitude of B.Ed students studying in different teacher education institutions affiliated to Dibrugarh University. Findings of the present study reveal that there is no significant difference between the mean aptitude scores obtained by male and female B.Ed students. No significant difference is found between the mean aptitude scores obtained by arts and science graduate; and graduate and post-graduate B.Ed students.
