In the recent days, the Rural Non-Farm Activities is considered as an effectual strategy for decentralization of economic activities to rural India. The Economic Census of India estimates that around 41.89 million rural people are employed in non-farm establishments which registered a growth rate of 4.56 per cent during 1998–2005. However, the non-farm sector has been contending with a number of factors like inadequate rural infrastructure like roads, power, communication facilities, insufficient unskilled workers, inadequate credit, information etc. The present paper highlights the structural changes in non-farm activities in India and investigates recent trends in non-farm activities.
