Abstract

Buraydah is the capital city of Al Qassim. Khubaib enjoys the merit of being renowned as the most attractive marketplace for non Saudi residents of Buraydah. The place is home to non Saudi nationals who after their daily work, come here to recreate and refresh themselves. Thursdays and Fridays specially enjoy a very enormous footfall of people from neighboring villages and cities. People frequent this space for shopping. After indulging in shopping they recreate themselves by sitting down for a while on the small platform flanking the space. This activity of people highlights the absence of adequate street furniture for people. Yet another demerit of this space is that this space does not allow users to indulge in active recreation or passive recreation. The main attempt of the study undertaken is to study the recreation potential of this commercial street as well as suggest measures to transform this street into a multi cultural recreation space for the people of all nationalities.
