The aim of this study was to profile first year Iranian students’ learning preferences and their differences regarding their major and gender. This survey was designed to a) collect demographic data and b) investigate the students’ preferred learning modes using VARK (Visual, Aural, Read–Write and Kinesthetic) questionnaire. The results indicated that Aural mode was the most favorite learning style (22.53%). Furthermore, there were no significant differences among students’ learning preferences regarding their gender, but their learning preferences differed based on their major. These findings have significant teaching and research implications.
