Abstract

Translation is looked upon as recast and reconstruction activity from one language into another. While translating any text, a translator tries to produce the closest possible equivalence into the target language. A certain degree of semantic loss is avoided in the act of translation. In an advertisement verbal and non-verbal signs that generate meanings are significant for the translator. In the TV advertisements interlingual translatability increases the communicative efficiency of the advertisements. One advertisement is translated in different languages in order to inhance its viewership/accessibility. The present paper explores the role of English-Hindi translation in TV advertising from socio-semantic point of view.
