The bus passengers in Kerala has two major options to travel, viz., buses run by Kerala State Road Transport Corporation and private buses. The characteristics of services are different between these two providers. KSRTC is facing a huge crisis with the increase of fuel prices and mismanagement. This study aims at analysing the differences between the expectations of the passengers and performances of KSRTC and private buses. The study also analyses the difference between performances of KSRTC and private buses. The sample size was 300 and the data was analysed using percentages, Likert scale, ranking method and Chi square test. It was inferred that the differences between the performances of KSRTC and private buses are highly significant. Suggestions also are provided based on the insights from the study.
