Women Empowerment: The Realistic Goals and Challenges for Nation Building

When we look at the social scenario down the ages we observe that women constitute nearly half of the world population. Women as mothers are the architects who build the future of a generation. Yet it is sad to observe that for many generations women were not treated equal to men in various ways. They did not own property, they had no voting rights and they had no freedom to choose their work or job. India is known the world over for its many cultures, traditions, religions, geographical variations and openness to noble thoughts from all quarters. True we have come out of those dark days of oppression of women to some extent. The recent incidents of diabolic rapes and inhuman cruelties dealt out to women are ugly stains in the age old noble tradition of our ancient culture. Hence we need to adopt various steps to fight for the rights of women and to ensure that every one of them do get all their rights which men enjoy or in other words for the Empowerment of Women. The paper discusses the various issues related to the Empowerment of Women and suggests measures for achieving this end.
