Abstract

With the increasing options on Doordarshan and transnational satellite channels, television has become a necessary evil exposing the viewers to both good and bad quality programme contents. And today children of poor and rich families watch more television than ever before. Since children watch television in company of family members, television viewing is not an isolated experience for them. Thus, various aspects of the family have a relationship with children's television viewing habits while television plays a role in their socialization process. The paper seeks to present an overview of the emergence of television as an agent of children's socialization process like the family, peer groups and educational institutions with a focus on their viewing habits.
