This study was developed to compare and contrast the language needs of Iranian English learners as well as teachers at formal and informal settings. To do so, 47 students studying at private language institutes were randomly selected. The same number of high school students who had never participated at private language institutes also took part in this study. Questionnaires of language needs were submitted to the whole participants. In the second part of the research, the same questionnaires were submitted to 36 institute as well as 36 high school teachers to determine how different their views are. The outcomes of the questionnaires showed considerable and significant difference between the needs of students at formal and informal settings from both students and teachers’ points of view.
