Creative thinking as a predictor of English learning anxiety and successful learning English

Abstract

Language strategies are the main factors that help determine how well our students learn a second or foreign language. The academic language learning is to teach learners how to learn more effectively. Creativity/creative thinking is one of the most fundamental key elements of having a good class. Creativity is creating clear and singular visions for the future in the mind of people, the vision act as incentive in order for the people to enhance their thinking process and hence stimulate their creativity. So the research investigated the relationship between Creative thinking with English learning anxiety and successful learning English. 80 university students were randomly selected and responded to Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking, English Language Classroom Anxiety Scale and Attitude to Learning English Strategies Test. Analysis of the data involved both descriptive and inferential statistics including means, standard deviations, and Pearson correlation coefficients. Findings showed negative and significant correlation between Creativity with English Negative Evaluation Anxiety and English General Anxiety. Also, there is positive and significant correlation between Creativity with positive attitude to English, persistence in learning English, time and place of learning English, English learning strategies and English exam positive attitude to English, persistence in learning English, time and place of learning English, English learning strategies and English exam.
