Emperor's Edicts Revisited: A study of Ashokan Inscription

Earliest deciphered inscriptions of India belong to late 4^th century BCE. Ashokan inscription written in Brāhmī and Kharōshthī found distributed across the varied regions of the subcontinent. Our understanding of origin and development of earliest deciphered scripts remain enigmatic. Similarly, its wider purpose and practical utility, although variously argued, remain problematic. But the significance of these epigraphs is immense.
