Training in organizations is considered to be of paramount importance as organizations continue to invest in learning and development of employees. Organizations undertake different types of training programmes to aid and augment the learning and growth in career of individual employees. Since training has been considered an important investment; organizations have considered its evaluation as an imperative. This paper presents the study of past literatures on evaluation of the effectiveness oftraining programmes between the years 1991 to 2013. The purpose is to find out the different models used for evaluating the training programmes. From the reviewof extant literature, it has been found that the widely used model by organizations and training facilitators was the Kirkpatrick four level model of evaluation. However our reviewalso highlights the need for other models for evaluating the effectiveness of the programmes.
