Job Satisfaction of Teachers on the Private University: A Study of Northern University Bangladesh, America Bangladesh University, Darul Ihsan University in Khulna City of Bangladesh

Abstract

Job satisfaction is an indispensable key to excellence in any job. Teaching as a profession is no exception to that. In this study an attempt has been made to determine the level of job satisfaction of the private universities teacher. The study was conducted on 30 teachers from 3 private universities in Khulna city. In order to attain the objective of the study, information has been collected on the following sort of variables like working condition, salary and other benefit, work relationship, work load, recognition and social value, security of job, training and development. The analysis has prepared based on a questionnaire survey. The questionnaire was designed with 21 different questions classified into seven (07) groups according to job satisfaction supportive factors. The overall analysis reveals that satisfaction level of private university teachers are neither satisfied nor dissatisfied. The major reason behind that the separate private university offered several benefits others are not. So the overall result of satisfaction level is neutral. Although it is observed that teachers of Northern University are more satisfied than America Bangladesh University and Darul Ihsan University. And the teachers of Darul Ihsan University are found the least satisfied among the three universities. But no big distance is found in overall satisfaction level between male and female. So, Job satisfaction level of private university teachers is almost same between male and female. The study was noticed problems in three major areas. They are – less training opportunity, low salary and other benefit and lack of job security. Ensuring proper training facilities for the teachers, offering long term job contract and establishing a standard common pay scale for all private university teachers can remove those dissatisfaction.
