A Conceptual Model on Various Factors Influencing Effective Career Management

Abstract

Across the globe, there are different areas of Human Resource Management (HRM) were studied and its significance were proved through various scholarly works. In India, one unexplored area of HRM is “Career Management” (CM). There are organisations knowingly or unknowingly offers employee career management support. Due to the growing importance of career, renowned career researchers have recommended that career management responsibilities need to be shared by employees and the organisation. Our current paper is trying to explain the various factors influencing employee career management in achieving effective career management practices. Since, career is a lifetime process involving different job positions held by an employee in one or more organisations both vertically and horizontally. Managing a career is not a simple task, it has lots of issues to do it in an effective way. Every individual is solely responsible for their career success and failure. As each and every employee is different in the way they think, decide and act. The paper will discuss about individual values and beliefs, career consciousness, Career advancement, organizational support, family and personal management, personal well-being, and work-life interference as the factors influence in effective career management practices by proposing a conceptual framework.
