Households Level Food Security: A Case Study of Nurpur Bedi Block of Punjab

Food security at global or national level may not usually address the micro level (household level) food insecurity problem therefore, food security situation is examined at micro level. In India, Punjab state is considered as the food bowl of the country. Agricultural production increased tremendously in the state during last four decades. But there are areas like the Kandi belt which are still food insecure. Two-thirds of the development blocks falling in this belt are still food deficit. Nurpur Bedi block of Rupnagar district is one among them. Therefore, the present study is an attempt to analyse the household level food security in Nurpur Bedi block and also to describe the factors influencing household level food security. The result of the study shows that the food secure households correspond with households having large land holdings size, irrigation facilities, higher female literacy rate and so on.
