Locus of Control and Stress among Cancer Patients

Stress has been extensively studied in several biologically based studies. In contrast, only a limited number of studies have assessed psychological variables related to stress, with locus of control serving as potentially important variables, particularly in cancer patients. Thus, the current study investigated the relation of locus of control and stress among Kashmiri cancer patients. The sample consisted of 200 cancer patients. The sample for the study was obtained from the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences Srinagar Kashmir. Results suggested that internal locus of control is positive significant predictors of stress. And, the mean scores of stress in internal locus group were higher than chance locus of control group, and powerful others locus of control group. These results highlight the importance of having future studies examine and identify potential mediators of the stress and consequently Implications of programs and promoting better mental and physical health are discussed.
