The Impact Of Cognitive Flexibility On Resistance To Organizational Change, Considering The Effect Of Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB), In Tehran Province Gas Company

Abstract

As people who have cognitive flexibility, are able to determine suitable ways to adapt to situations through the process of social cognition, consequently, they can find substitute and in different ways, and are more flexible than those who only know one way to flexibility. Resistance to change can be defined as continence to it. So it may become a source of conflict within the organization.

The organizations which have a high degree of organizational citizenship behavior, encounter with less staff absence, low rate of leaving service and high degree of satisfaction and loyalty. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of cognitive flexibility on resistance to organizational change influenced by organizational citizenship behavior in Tehran Gas Company. The population of this research are experts and senior and middle executives in gas company in Tehran with the number of 375. The sample size according to Cochran formula for finite population sample, are 196 subjects who were randomly chosen from the statistical community. A questionnaire was used to collect data. In this study, the analyst confirmatory factor analysis and path analysis of relationships between structures is used. The results show that there is meaningful relationship between these phenomena: insight and self-reflection with cognitive flexibility, emotional resistance with behavioral resistance, emotional resistance with cognitive, resistance, cognitive flexibility with emotional resistance, cognitive flexibility with cognitive resistance, and cognitive flexibility with behavioral resistance. And the OCB has strong impacts on these relationships.
