Identifying Level of Faith in Vastu Principles by the Home Dwellers

Many vastu experts and eminent scholars have written books on the various concepts of vastu Shastra as well as so many conferences, seminars and workshops have also been conducted in India and Abroad for bringing awareness about vastu principles. In order to ascertain how many people have faith in vastu principles, a research study was carried out in Udaipur city of Rajasthan state. In this research study 200 home dwellers from newly constructed localities were randomly selected and interviewed by the researcher to find the faith level of Vastu Shastra principles in house construction with the help of an interview schedule. On the basis of results analyzed the study revealed that majority number of the respondents i.e. male/female (91.50%) who were in the age group of <=30 to>60 years were having familiarity with the term “Vastu Shastra”. 65.00% respondents belonged to nuclear families while 35.00% were from joint families. The majority of the respondents (81.50%) to whom the questionnaire was put up were highly qualified while least number (16.00%) and (2.50%) were below graduate level and illiterate respectively. Most of the respondents (67.50%) were employed followed by 23.50% in business while 9.50% were house wives. The extent of faith level in vastu Shastra principles measured at 5-point scale showed amazing results. 80.00% of the respondents showed (full, partial and average faith) in the use of vastu principles in house construction and interior designing while least number i.e. 20.00% were having their faith at low and very low level. Level of faith was measured and analyzed of various principles of vastu and it showed amazing results. Large number of home dwellers showed faith by applying all important vastu principles from purchase of plot to Home inaugural ceremony. It was found that the knowledge and application about few concepts such as selection of plot, beginning of construction, main direction of entrance of house; slopes, drains and boring in house; shape of ideal plot; location of pooja room, kitchen and, master bed room in houses were much high. The faith level was tested by the Pearson's Coefficient Correlation and it showed highly significantly correlation exists between knowledge and extent of application, between knowledge and faith and between application and faith. Hence it is concluded that knowledge, application and faith about vastu go hand-in-hand and these are correlated with each other.
