In this paper, a new method is employed to solve the assignment problem namely, DA(Direct Allocation) assignment method. By a Numerical example we prove that this method gives the same optimum solution and also it minimizes the total cost for certain problems and for a few problems gives more cost compared to existing Hungarian method. In addition some of the variations and some special cases in assignment problem and its applications have been discussed in this paper.
