A Study on the Competence of Employees in Information Technology Companies of Coimbatore

Abstract

Competencies are very important in the process of workforce planning. Knowledge on the competences that future workforce must possess will help the organization plan its Organizational structure and HR Strategies to achieve its business goals. In this research, Perceived Competence of employees working in Information Technology Companies of Coimbatore is captured on 19 competence dimensions to know their level and the influence of socio economic and demographic variables on Competence of an employee are studied. The primary data for the study has been generated through interview method on a stratified random sample of 500 employees of selected information technology companies of Coimbatore belonging to information technology industrial cluster. Also the perceived effectiveness of competence management in the Information Technology Companies of Coimbatore is studied through the data captured from the sample respondents. The study is thus comprehensive in covering all aspects of employee competence.
