Abstract

Wire electrical Discharge machining (WEDM) is a specialized thermal machining Process capable of accurately machining parts of hard materials with complex shapes. Technology of the WEDM process is based on conventional EDM sparking phenomenon utilizing the widely accepted non contact technique of material removal with a difference that spark is generated at wire and work piece gap. Selection of Optimum machining parameter combinations for obtaining for obtaining higher cutting efficiency and accuracy is the challenging tasks in WEDM due to the presence of large number of process variables and complicated process mechanism. This paper presence presents a study on machining parameters of AISI H13 die steel. In this study machining variables investigated were pulse on time, pulse off time, wire feed and gap voltage. Taguchi method used for design of experiments and to find optimum machining parameters and ANOVA was used to find the percentage contribution of each parameter.
