Ethnic Diversity, Attachment and Preference of Employees Working in Manufacturing Sector of Coimbatore District, Tamil Nadu, India

Abstract

In this research paper, ethnic diversity, attachment and preference of the workforce in the manufacturing sector of Coimbatore district have been studied. The primary data were collected through a structured interview Schedule from 426 sample employees of different ethnic work group functioning in the manufacturing sector, such as, General Engineering, Pumps and Motors, Textiles and Foundry Industries in Coimbatore district. The Liker scale is used to analyze the ethnic attachment and ethnic preference of various ethnic groups of employees. The statistical tools such as “weighted average”, “Spearman's Rank correlation” and “Kendall's Coefficient Concurrence” are used to analyze the data. The research findings affirmed that the ethnic attachment and preference of various ethnic groups are similar. There is no significant difference in the ranking pattern of various categories of employees based on demographic factors such as age, education and religion of the employees. It is suggested to identify the different ethnic work groups in industrial setting and formulate the suitable human resource policies to attract, retain and motivate the employees to exhibit their maximum involvement and commitment to the organizational goals.
