Synthesis, growth, and spectroscopic studies of nonlinear optical mixed borate crystal

Abstract

Mixed crystals of (Na)0.5(K)0.5B5O8) were grown by slow evaporation method. The grown mixed crystals were characterized by various techniques such as, X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), Fourier Transform Infra Red Spectroscopy (FT-IR), photoluminescence spectra (PL) and Second harmonic generation efficiency(SHG). XRD result shows that the grown mixed borate crystals are orthorhombic structure with lattice constants a = 11.1350, b =11.1662, c =9.0451 and also well matched with one of the end members of the previous results. Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) confirms the presence of sodium and potassium in the mixed crystal system. Fourier Transform Infra Red Spectroscopy (FT-IR) confirms the presence of functional groups in the mixed crystal system. From the photoluminescence results, the violet emission is observed at 311 nm and the band gap related emission is 359 nm. The second harmonic generation behavior of new borate mixed crystals were confirmed by Kurtz-Perry powder technique.
