Assessing the potential zone of groundwater recharge is extremely important for the protection of water quality and the management of groundwater systems. It is therefore, necessary to integrate the several factors on these terrain characteristics. Remote sensing and Fuzzy logic now-a-days have become inevitable tools for the analysis of groundwater at local, regional and global level. Fuzzy logic based concepts have found a very wide range of applications in different field and this membership functions assessed for overlay maps were mainly extracted from the field data. The benefit is that they don't need to conduct a new analysis, or change the rules, or the criteria, which saves time and effort. In the study area a standard methodology is proposed to confirm the groundwater potential using combination of RS & GIS technique and fuzzy logic system. The integrated map is generated using GIS tools and other map like geology, slope, drainage density, geomorphic units and lineament density are generated using the satellite data and survey of India (SOI) toposheets of scale 1:50000. It is then integrated with weighted overlay in ArcGIS and Fuzzy logic model using matlab. The use of suggested methodology will be useful for efficient classification of appropriate locations for withdrawal of water in noyyal river basin.
