Optimization of Drilling Parameters of Al/SiC Composites by using Genetic Algorithm to Increase the Metal Removal Rate

Abstract

Machining of composite materials is an significant and present topic in current researches on manufacturing processes. In this paper study of drilling Aluminium Silicon Carbide (AlSiC) was investigated. The objective of this research is to study the outcome of cutting speed, feed rate, diameter of machining, machining time on metal removal rate, specific energy, surface roughness, volume fraction and flank wear. In this paper attempts made to set up a complete mathematical model for comparing the interactive and higher contribution of a variety of cutting parameters using Taguchi experimental model. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) has been carried out to verify the fit and adequacy of the build up mathematical models. In this, a multiple regression model has been used to signify the relationship between input and output variables and a multi-objective optimization technique based on a Genetic Algorithm (GA) has been utilized to optimize the process.
