Study on Particle Size and Concentration Using Laser Speckle Technique in Light Scattering Liquid Medium

Department of Physics, Kumaraguru College of Technology, Coimbatore, India

Abstract

A high coherent Laser beam is scattered from a colloidal medium of liquid (milk) due to the movement of sedimentation and Brownian motion and a random grainy image known as speckle pattern is formed in the observation plane. The resultant speckle having a statistical distribution of the intensity and it is dynamic in nature. Sequential laser speckle images were recorded for different concentrations and the time evolution of this interference image carries information about the dynamics of the scattering particles. The aim of this work is to evaluate the use of dynamic speckle for the assessment of particle size and corresponding speckle size for different concentration with the help of image processing technique.
