Quality Management in Indian Hospitals: A Model Approach

Assessing the quality management system has become an ongoing concern in healthcare arena to cut down service costs and to enhance the business performance. The purpose of the study is to understand the impact of quality management on the performance of selected hospitals in India. The current research is a cross-sectional study to measure the casual effect of quality management on the performance of Indian hospitals. The study employed structural equation modeling to evaluate the causal sequence of quality management practices on the performance of hospitals. Developing a suitable quality management framework in a healthcare sector requires a thorough knowledge of quality practices and their implication on the overall performance. The study identified factors that influence quality management in hospitals. It also identified the strength of the relationship between quality management systems and performance of hospitals with respect to the size of the hospitals. The study identified that quality awareness and quality practices positively affect the quality management which in turn has a positive impact on the overall performance of the hospital. It also highlighted that, quality management is related strongly to small sized hospitals when compared to larger hospitals.
