This study mainly focuses on ergonomic intervention of designing industrial trolley with swivel and fixed wheel to carry the jaw bit and hydraulic lifting arrangement to fix the jaw bit in the crane tong. Key ergonomic factors like force requirement to move the trolley, castor wheel, trolley height and handle design were considered and fabricated trolley was subjected to the crane tong jaw bit changing trial. It was ascertained that it has greatly helped the employees in eliminating Manual Material Handling.
Manual Material Handling (MMH) of Electric Overhead Travelling (EOT) crane tong jaw bit changing is a physical activity that involves exertion of considerable force. It compels employees to work in an awkward position and makes them to work in a high risk condition. The industrial trolley demonstrates that the engineering measure helped the employees in reducing the compressive force at the lower back.
