The Indian Textile Industry occupies an important place in the economy of the country because of its contribution to the industrial output, employment generation and earnings. It is the second largest employer after the agriculture sector in both rural and urban areas. In textile, Powerloom sector plays a major role in the country. The quantum of production of fabrics in the Powerloom sector works out 60% of the overall textile production. But due to lack of attention and innovation towards the Powerloom, the industry is dwindling and declining in some part of Tamilnadu. Healthy competitions have not yet been made and the concerned Powerloom entrepreneurs have been suffering without new technologies owing to the lack of financial assistance. In this study, an attempt has been made to evaluate the functioning of Powerloom industry and the factors influencing the successful operation of Powerloom industries in the study area.
