This work deals with the modeling, simulation and implementation of the closed loop fuzzy based cuk controlled excitation system for synchronous generator used in Aircraft application. Output voltage of the alternator is sensed and it is compared with the reference voltage. The error is used to adjust the duty ratio of the DC to DC cuk converter. The open loop and closed loop systems are simulated using PI and Fuzzy controllers and the corresponding results are presented. A cuk converter is proposed to control the field current of the alternator system. The responses of PI & Fuzzy based closed loop systems are compared. Laboratory model of the hardware is developed and tested. The experimental results are compared with the simulation results.
