The aim of cognitive radio is to obtain the best available spectrum through cognitive capability and reconfigurability. Spectrum sensing is the key function of cognitive cycle. In this paper, to facilitate better sensing accuracy in fading and receiver uncertainty environment, cooperative spectrum sensing is considered in the cognitive radio network. An enhanced two stage energy detector is used to make a local decision, and the global decision is made at the coordinator. The proposed two stage energy detection scheme reduces the spectrum sensing failure problem by adopting a single threshold in the first stage and adaptive double threshold in the second stage. The performance of the proposed enhanced two stage energy detection scheme in cooperative spectrum sensing is analyzed in terms of probability of detection, probability of error and the sensing time and the simulation results shows the system performance under noise uncertainty environment
