A Methodology to Develop Language Skills in Students: A Paradigm Shift from the Traditional LSRW to LRSW

Abstract

Changes can be brought about in an individual's life, in a society, in a country and in the whole world only by changing the teaching and learning methodology. The younger generation should be taught to communicate effectively in this era of globalization. In the world of information, communication and technology, effective communication skills is indispensable to easily surf through this world, get one's views across and realize one's objective. To prepare the learners to face such a world, the classroom teaching must undergo a sea change. Since the early years of the evolution of language teaching and learning in India, there have been changes in the techniques and methods used for skill augmentation. In this paper, the researcher attempts at developing the competent language and communication skills in engineering students by converting the traditional strategy LSRW to LRSW. The present study focuses on Indian learners of English but this can be applied to any non-native English learner. Various statistical tools have been applied to measure the improvement in the communication skills of the students.
