Abstract

In this survey paper, the state of the art techniques for sensorless Brush Less Direct Current (BLDC) motor drives and various control techniques are presented. BLDC motor is used in many applications like aerospace, home appliances, consumer, automotive, medical equipment, Instrumentation, etc. The operation of sensorless BLDC motor is better due to absence of conventional controls and position sensing techniques. This survey includes an overview of sensorless techniques in direct and indirect back-EMF detection methods and other relevant techniques based on flux and torque estimation. The list of techniques are Sliding Mode Observer, Stator Current Observer, Extended Kalman Filter, Model Reference Adaptive System, Adaptive Observers, Fault Tolerant Control, Fuzzy, Neuro Fuzzy, Field Oriented Control, Matrix Converter, Field Programme Gate Array, Genetic algorithm, Direct Torque Control, Artificial Neural Networks, Artificial Intelligent Control, etc.
