The design of a novel Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) based automated optimally controlled watering system for coriander plantation field is presented in this paper. In a vast field of Coriander plantation it is necessary to maintain a certain degree of moisture uniformly over the entire filed at the required level. A wireless sensor network with minimal power consumption is proposed for this system. Based on the information received from the wireless sensor network and in association with a particle swarm optimizer a decision is to be made as to what degree of the levels of opening of the valves are to be carried out in every control cycle. This will guarantee the maintenance of the appropriate moisture levels throughout the Coriander plantation field. The proposed technique is validated using an experimentation setup using the C2500 transceiver units and PIC micro controller 16F877A with a suitable desk top graphics developed in Visual Basic.
