This study made an attempt to assess adolescent girls ’knowledge, perceptions and attitudes towards life skill education and STIs/HIV and safer sex practice.
Data were drawn from DLHS-III conducted 2007–08. Totally 94, 122 late adolescent girls were interviewed for this study.
Results indicate that two-third of the late adolescent rural girls aware of family life education and it should be given at the age of 10 years and above. About one-fourth of late-adolescent girls were aware of RTI/STI on the other hand more than two-third of them aware of HIV/AIDS. More than one-fifth had no accurate understanding about the mode of HIV transmission. Only little less than one-third of them believed that using condom would protect against HIV infection (31.6 percent).
Though controversial, there is an immense need to implement gender-based family life education regarding STIs, and safe sex in India
